Benjamin Peters, PhD

Dr. Benjamin A. Peters is Director of the Global Scholars Program and a Faculty Associate at the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan.
He lived and worked in Japan for fourteen years where he served as Professor of Political Science, Dean of the School of International Liberal Arts, and Vice President of Miyazaki International University in Miyazaki, Japan.
Dr. Peters holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A.), the University of Washington (M.A.I.S.), and Rutgers University (Ph.D.), and his research and writing are in peace studies, specifically the politics of peace in Japan and Costa Rica, alternative defense, and, most recently, communicative practices of peace.
He lives with his family in Ann Arbor, Michigan (U.S.A.).
